What is Air-cow?

Air-cow is an air-cushion lifting system for animals that are unable to get up. This patented system was imagined and developed by Pierre Schoenaers, veterinary practitioner.

It is a pneumatic medical device for cattle suffering from trauma or pathologies causing a total or partial inability to move and/or get up.

The device makes it possible to provide:

rehabilitation;
administration of care;
movement of the animal.

All in the best conditions of safety and animal welfare.

Why?

In everyday veterinary practice, it is common to encounter pathologies that cause a total or partial inability to move or to get up.

In these cases, the animal's own weight turns against it:

fatigue, difficulty standing;
stops eating and drinking;
metabolic deficit;
weakness, pressure sores, muscle degeneration.

Very often, the initial cause of the problem is cured, but the complications of prolonged recumbency still lead to death. The idea of euthanising a cured animal is a hard one.

The Air-cow system limits the complications linked to any locomotor disability and increases the animal's chances of recovery by allowing it to receive the appropriate care in optimal welfare conditions.

How to use it?

The deflated cushion is slid under the lying animal. Using the compressor, the cushion is then inflated in a few minutes.

The animal is placed into the cushion, already inflated and closed.

The inflated cushion is slid under the animal.

In all cases, a few rules must be followed:

protect the feet;
hobble the hind legs;
attach the animal to the cushion using the straps provided (withers and head);
stabilise the cushion in its environment.

Once installed in the Air-cow cushion, the animal only requires occasional monitoring and does not need a person present at all times. The system can be used both on the farm and in a clinic.
